When washing walls, work from the bottom up to prevent cleanser from streaking dirty sections below.

Spot clean wallpaper regularly with a squirt of dish washing liquid added to a gallon of water. Dip a sponge into the solution, squeeze out the excess water, and wipe away dirt. Rinse with a damp sponge. Blot dry with a lint free cloth.

Make Your Own Wall Cleaner

Dissolve 1/2 cup of Borax in 1 gallon of warm water. Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of ammonia.
