In the event of a spill inside your oven, scatter salt on the leftover mess while the oven retains its warmth. (Hence, if the spill has dried, moisten the mess lightly first.) As the oven temperature drops, gently scrape off the spill with a spatula, then eliminate any remaining mess with a sponge soaked in soap. Alternatively, douse the leftover mess with vinegar and blanket it with a damp cloth until it loosens up for easy removal.
To minimize future oven cleaning ordeals, line the bottom of your oven with aluminum foil, and replace it when spills occur.
